In 1976, experienced bookkeeper Judy Kay decided to spread her wings and open her own accounting firm, with help from her friend and former co-worker Sheila Helton. Judy founded Numbers, Etc. in a basement office next to what was then a fast-food hamburger restaurant on West Dixon Blvd in Shelby. In the early 1990s, Judy moved the business to Uptown Shelby, first to Graham Street then to Marion Street in the early 2000s. Judy’s son Noel joined the staff in 2000, and, after his mother’s death, changed the name to Numbers Bookkeeping and Income Tax Service, LLC to describe the business more accurately. In 2015, Noel relocated the firm to its current location on South Lafayette Street, where he plans to remain.

Noel pursued two vocations for 20 years, working as a paramedic as well as an accountant. He retired from the paramedic field in October 2020.

In addition to his paramedic and tax preparation services, Noel has been a volunteer firefighter with the Fallston Fire Department for 15 years. He is also a member of the Burns High School Football Boosters and a competitive barbecue cook. Noel and his wife Dana have two grown sons; Christopher is a law enforcement officer and Matthew is a firefighter.
